Injection Molding Machine Operator
The Machine Operator position interacts and operates all aspects of the injection molding equipment at PPI. The position requires oversight of the operation, manual placement of components, manual removal of injection molded parts, monitoring quality, trimming of plastic and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Under the direction of the Molding Manager, this position coordinates daily operations of PPI’s plastic injection molding production areas. This is a hands-on role that requires the Team Leader to perform many production functions such as set-up, machine operations, and break relief during some circumstances. Responsible for monitoring daily & weekly plant performance, safety, driving efficiency within operations, reporting incidents & actively assist in corrective actions, resolve immediate-term equipment malfunctions, maintain quality within established specifications, ensure that operation documentation is completed, and coordinate activities of support departments. Manage all aspects of productivity by coordinating personnel and administering practices consistent with PPI policies regarding plant work rules. Communication to appropriate levels of the organization regarding critical shift issues is essential.
Perform setups & changeovers of electric and hydraulic plastic injection molding machines. Responsible for accurate mold setups and maintaining a safe and clean work area. Monitoring of auxiliary equipment, minor maintenance, & material handling functions. Communicate setup status & schedule with prior and oncoming shifts. Set expectations to achieve production requirements and promote shift interaction and awareness. Promote safety by following all related policies and procedures
This entry-level position is designed to develop the skills required to perform equipment setups & changeovers of electric and hydraulic plastic injection molding machines. Candidates for the position must have the mechanical aptitude to learn the fundamentals of injection molding techniques, as well as have the physical abilities to perform this manually-intensive role. The training period for this position is expected to be 9-12 months, at which point, successful candidates would then be promoted into the fully qualified Set-up Technician I level (see above).
